Not a great example of an Irish Breakfast. So this is my second visit to this hotel. To be fair, the rooms are nice - they are clean, large and comfortable. Nothing fancy, just nice rooms. I was kindly upgraded to a posher room this time.

The staff are very friendly and polite. However, I remembered from my last visit a few weeks ago that I felt the breakfast was a BIG let down and sure enough it was again. I shall elaborate The ingredients to make up this Irish Breakfast were all of a low quality. The server asked me if I would like a cooked breakfast and I asked for a full Irish with my mushrooms slightly burnt and scrambled eggs rather than fried.

What arrived was one sausage, two rashers of bacon, three boiled mushrooms, half a cooked tomato, one piece of black pudding and one piece of white pudding, a bowl of beans on the side and 'scrambled' eggs. So, sounds fine so far, however the 'scrambled' egg was more like a mashed up omelette, the one sausage looked slightly anaemic, my three boiled mushrooms were horrid, the puddings were the worst example of Irish puddings that you could find, the half a tomato was only cooked halfway and the bacon was not cooked nicely at - more boiled in the brine that is pumped into cheap bacon.
Such a disappointment as I have had Irish breakfasts in hotels and bed and breakfasts up and down Ireland which are fantastic and people who are not familiar with a quality Irish breakfast are being presented with this poor attempt.
Note to hotel - if you use low quality ingredients you get a low quality breakfast. This then spoils the experience of staying at a reasonably nice hotel. We decided to stay in Dublin and chose RIU which would normally be the hotel that we stay in when abroad. We definitely made the right decision as this stay brought us back happy memories and also created new ones.
When entering the hotel we were stopped by an amazing Spanish gentleman named David who is one of the concierges, he explained to us that our temperature is measured and handed us face masks which we had forgotten in our car. We were checked in by Claudia who was very efficient and kind explaining our many questions while checking in. Also our bags were brought up for us by the concierge as we never travel lightly.
Our room was in the lavery wing, which was very spacious and clean. Anything you would expect in a decent 4 star hotel.

Dinner was served in the Writers Bar which was absolutely grand all 3 evenings we were there. We didn't have a reservation for dinner, but when arriving in the restaurant we were greeted by an absolute gentleman named Goncalo who kindly showed us to a table and made sure we are well looked after all evening. Food was gorgeous, cocktails were fun and tasty. Breakfast was to die for with so much variety. On the very last day we ordered take away breakfasts as we had to leave early in the morning to go back home. We were greeted in the morning by the night staff who were very lively and chatty.
Offered us a coffee to go as well which we desperately needed at that point. Amazing hotel. Amazing staff. Nothing to fault. Who even needs the Canaries when you can stay at the Gresham?
